ECS-CAT, an intelligent, autonomous solution for pantograph inspection, monitoring and analysis

The many instances of damage to the catenary, whose impact is highly penalizing for both operators and users, have highlighted the need for a system that can detect pantograph damage as early as possible.

Yumain's ECS-CAT solution is an innovative answer to several important problems in pantograph maintenance. Compact and easy to install on a dedicated gantry, this pantograph monitoring device requires only a simple power connection to operate. Our stand-alone DSP analyzes the video stream locally and automatically sends alert reports that can be accessed via the ECS-View application or integrated directly into your CMMS tool. In addition, the ECS-CAT can detect the type and ID of the analyzed train, which allows both tracking its evolution and eliminates the need to perform this search manually once an anomaly has been detected.

Only useful information in one place: ECS View

The ECS CAT provides essential support to operators and maintenance managers faced with voluminous data management in their CMMS software, thanks to the use of on-board AI, which brings up only useful information and therefore facilitates data analysis by creating a targeted, easily exploitable spectrum of data.

What's more, all recovered data is stored and archived in an easy-to-access, easy-to-use tool, ECS View, making it possible to centralize data for further processing.

Reduced costs
ECS-CAT is the key for operators and maintenance managers who wish to multiply the number of control points, thanks to its considerably lower cost than alternatives on the market, enabling them to create a larger control network, while at the same time tracking anomalies over time and on the move.

ECS-CAT is also an essential support for operators and maintenance managers wishing to keep their systems in optimum operating condition, thanks to its ability to anticipate unforeseen incidents through early, real-time detection of anomalies, enabling proactive management of interventions to ensure trouble-free operation.

ECS-CAT, with the AI and camera embedded in its sensor, makes a huge difference

Compact, self-contained product with quick and easy commissioning

Works on trains in service, so there's no need for routine manual inspections

A solution at a lower cost than other solutions, allowing the multiplication of control points on the rail network

Only useful information with detailed reports. All centralized in an easy-to-use and efficient tool, ECS-View.

Find out more about this innovative solution

To detect the non-conformity of a pantograph (raised or not) on a train running under a sensor, the system will rely on a combination of image analysis and on-board algorithms based on artificial intelligence.

The arrival of the train will be identified either by image analysis (Sigma/Delta technology), or by an external sensor (the device authorizes 2 inputs via dry contact).

Train identification can be performed either by:

  • Reconciliation of the time-stamped event with the operator's train schedule database
  • Locating and reading the train identification plate (if located on the front panel)
  • Any other signal (radio) to authenticate the train

The location and analysis of all pantographs (deployed or not) present on the railcars is fully automatic and in real time (< 5 minutes). If an anomaly is identified, an alarm is immediately generated:

  • dry contact (2 outputs) to power a local PLC.
  • a time-stamped email with photos of defects
  • a complete message via FTP and Ethernet or wifi connection.

This information can also be stored and time-stamped for statistical purposes, as well as to supply the QSE manager with useful indicators.

Thanks to its fanless design, this solution requires no maintenance.

Installation on a mast, on a wall or on track gantries are the most common solutions.

This device includes all the elements required for its operation and installation: an "Edge Computing" solution. In its basic version, it requires only an external power supply + connection to a 4G modem. A local connection to a customer's processing unit is also possible.

In view of the various possible installation configurations, the devices can be powered in several ways:

  • By permanent power supply (240 VAC)
  • Via DC power supply
  • By solar panel

The sensor is designed for outdoor use (IP 57)

Night-time use of the device is currently only possible with the basic offer.
